Covid-19 Screening

School Screening Guidance for Covd-19 Symptoms: In an attempt to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we will be following recommendations from the CDC, DESE, and Benton County Health Department. Every day prior to sending your child to school, we ask that you check your child for potential COVID-19 symptoms. If your child has developed any of the following symptoms, they should not be sent to school. COVID-19 Symptoms are currently defined into two categories: High and Low risk symptoms. HIGH RISK SYMPTOMS= Any new cough, difficulty breathing, loss of taste or smell. LOW RISK SYMPTOMS=congestion, runny nose, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, headache, myalgia (muscle aches and pain) or Fever 100.0 or greater. If a child has 1 low risk symptom, and no known exposure to COVID-19, the child can return to school 24 hours after the symptom has resolved (without taking fever reducing medications). If a child has 2 or more low risk symptoms, OR 1 high risk symptom, and no known exposure - the child needs to be evaluated by a healthcare provider. If a child has a COVID-19 diagnostic test swab, and the result is negative, the child can return to school 24 hours after the fever has resolved, and their symptoms are improving. If the child has lab testing and evaluation, and an alternative diagnosis is likely (flu/strep), the child can return to school 24 hours after the fever has resolved, and their symptoms are improving. If the child has a COVID-19 diagnostic swab, and the result is POSITIVE - the child can return to school with approval from the Benton County Health Department (typically 10-14 days) AND after 24 hours of being fever free without fever reducing medicaton AND symptoms are improving. If the child does not have symptoms, but has been exposed to a COVID-19 positive patient, the child can return to school after 14 days from the last date of exposure to the COVID-19 positive patient, UNLESS symptoms develop. If symptoms develop, call your Healthcare Provider for a diagnostic test swab.
