The following poem was given to me as a new teacher and now, years later, still is the one that has had the most impact on me with a  profound message I take to heart every time I read:

    Teacher Power
"I have come to a frightening conclusion that
I am the decisive element in the classroom.
It is my personal approach that creates the climate.
It is my daily mood that makes the weather.
As a teacher I possess tremendous power to make
A child's life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool
of torture or an instrument of inspiration.
I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal.
In all situations, it is my response that decides
whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated,
    and a child humanized or
    de-humanized."
    -Haim Ginott

I pray I have the right attitude every day and desire to be a positive influence in the lives of my students for the brief time I am blessed to have them in my classroom.

    Attitude
    By Charles Swindoll

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of
attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important
than facts. It is more important than the past,
than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures,
    than successes, than what other
people think or say or do.

It is more important than appearance, giftedness,
or skill. It will make or break a company...a
church...a home. The remarkable thing is that
we have a choice every day regarding the
attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot
change our past...we cannot change the fact that
people will act in a certain way. We cannot
    change the inevitable.

The only thing we can do is play on the one string
we have and that is our attitude. I am convinced
that life is 10% what happens to me and 90%
how I react to it. And so it is with you. We are in
    charge of our attitudes.
